Gastroparesis is digestive disorder where the stomach muscles are defective or slow contracting initially or over a period of time, slowing the stomach's emptying and causing various stomach symptoms like nausea, abdominal pain, and excessive acid production. An estimated 1.5 million Americans live with gastroparesis, 80% of which are women. While there is no cure for gastroparesis, working with a gastroenterologist on a treatment plan can help those living with it lessen the symptoms they experience daily.
