Thyroid cancer is cancer that develops in the thyroid, the butterfly shaped organ located in the neck just below the Adam's apple. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Two-thirds of thyroid cancer cases are diagnosed in people younger than the age of 55.
